The NHS Blood and Transplant car scheme offers all qualifying employees a simple, more affordable and stress free way to drive a brand new vehicle and help reduce the carbon emissions. 


How does it work?

Through the scheme, you can lease a brand new car using the discounts available to NHS Blood and Transplant.

All vehicles come with a full service, maintenance and repair package plus fully comprehensive insurance and complete support from our scheme provider, Knowles Fleet.

How do I pay?

You can pay for your car by via a salary deduction (if you travel 3,500 business miles or more per annum) or salary sacrifice arrangement.

Under both options, payments and any car benefit tax liability are taken directly from your salary on a monthly basis.

Ryan – Salary Sacrifice

Ryan's new car

Ryan is a 30 year old specialist nurse earning £33,706 per annum and travels an average of 8,000 miles a year.

As Ryan travels less than 3,500 business miles per annum, he doesn’t qualify for the salary deduction scheme although he benefits from any ad-hoc business travel undertaken being reimbursed at the agreed NHS Agenda for Change rate.

His choice of car is an electric MG4 Hatchback on a 36-month contract.

Katie is a 52 year old and travels an average of 15,000 miles a year, 5,000 of which relate to NHSBT business mileage.

As Katie travels over 3,500 business miles a year, she qualifies for the salary deduction as well as the salary sacrifice scheme.

Due to the stage in her career, Katie has decided not to elect for salary sacrifice due to the impact on her pension.

Her choice of car is an electric Nissan Leaf on a 36-month contract.
